@iamlondon says “This is horse manure”. Thanks goodness iamlondon is not presenting his own prejudice as though it were fact like the dreadful and deeply uncontemplative Mr. Fry.

  5. minimacca999 on August 6th, 2010 3:09 am

@yatter1 I replied to this ages ago but my reply appears to have gone missing so I’ll reply again. Why exactly am i wrong? and where exactly have i appealed to authority?

  6. minimacca999 on August 6th, 2010 3:54 am

@maakus81 which way are you saying i’m wrong? If your saying that there are more atheists among academics then that strengthens my argument

  7. maakus81 on August 6th, 2010 4:18 am

    @minimacca999 wrong, check again.

  8. maakus81 on August 6th, 2010 4:20 am

@jacksawild Jesus, shmezus!Fcats…when it comes to jesus, facts are irrelevant, he is not the “sun or Son” of any god… fucktards are able to reproduce, does this invalidate evolution? lol NO!

  9. maakus81 on August 6th, 2010 5:03 am

@iamlondon EINSTEIN DID NOT BELIEVE IN GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT HIS WRITINGS AND SPEECH…JUng was a perverted old freak who molested his students or made them more crazy than when they arrived… akin to scientology. Mozart was the equivalent of “Puff Daddy” in his day… cant sing cant dance, makes a good beat though! music maker…. no genius involved!

    stephen fry is my nigga

  13. spaceoreo on August 6th, 2010 6:48 am

@iamlondon He presents his opinion as opinion. Nothing more. It’s circumspect, mild-mannered and polite. Which is more than can be said for many.

  14. iamlondon on August 6th, 2010 7:15 am

This is Mr Fry doing what he does best – presenting his own prejudice as though it were fact. His jokey, smiley, warm proposal is that the best philosophers are those that specifically don’t discuss a moral duty. This is horse manure. If the ‘love of wisdom’ is anything it is a search for meaning. Meaning entails purpose, purpose dictates duty.

He also presents those who have belief as being foolish. As though Mozart, Einstein, Jung and Newton must have been fools to believe in God. Some fools!

    “philosophy is an odd thing”

the very first words had me laughing my ass off, lol. stephen fry is the best.

i wonder if i’m the only one who found that a funny thing to say, lol

I love you fry, but Kant does have a philosophy and Nietzsche does as well. The Kantian combination of act and motivation and Nietzsche’’s principle to live your life as if you were to live it forever.

There is a gospel, called gospel of the Hebrews or the Authentic Gospel of Matthew which was said by early church leaders to be the gospel of the nazarenes headed by James the Just as mentioned by and predating Paul. The nazarenes were active immediately after the crucifiction, James being Jesus’ brother, and there is no mention of the Trinity, Jesus as son of God, virgin birth or any of the other distinctly Roman ideas. But religious debate isn’t about anything as tawdry as facts, is it?

when he talks about nature being cruel…but are animals realy in pain..? why does this universe go all through this trouble to create the world, all the pain, suffering, bone cancer in children,it seems so gloomy..death is not looking all that bad..what bothers me the most,is we’ve already come from nothing once, and will most probably will do again in a differnt shape or form some where else in the cosmos, and again it will feel like the first one…so whats to do..

  19. TWildyM on August 6th, 2010 9:48 am

“..live under stress, with not enough to eat, and will die violent and bloody deaths.” *pause for serious stare*

He actually scared me when he said that. :P

  20. minimacca999 on August 6th, 2010 9:58 am

@yatter1 It’s not plainly immoral i’d say it’s highly debatable. what is plainly immoral is going round insulting strangers on youtube…

  21. yatter1 on August 6th, 2010 10:06 am

@minimacca999 wrong wrong fucking wrong, do some research , don´t just posit bullshit. without backing it up. We´re not fuckwits who you can hoodwink with an appeal to authority

  22. yatter1 on August 6th, 2010 10:47 am

@patrick112590 Then you have an idiotic concept of what it is to be a moral human being, verging on evil. If it was proved to you that there was no god, is that what you would do? That´s plainly immoral.

  23. ewijnen on August 6th, 2010 11:38 am

@yatter1 he should be called the modern renaissance man all he does and has done puts his status as comedian far behind. i am a massive fan

  24. yatter1 on August 6th, 2010 12:27 pm

To describe Stephen Fry oly as “a comedian” shows a certain and total lack of understanding of the man

  25. patrick112590 on August 6th, 2010 12:49 pm

@minimacca999 Oh i see. Well I know in North America religion is still fairly popular, so I guess I was thinking with that in mind. I guess you are right about academics mostly not having an active belief in the afterlife too, although it’s hard to say. It depends on which subject they’re focusing on; obviously a scientist has less of a chance in believing in an afterlife than a religious studies academic. :P

Got something to say?
